'Ponytail- The love for Revenge'- review of a thriller

Finished reading the book ‘Ponytail- The Love for Revenge’ a while ago. Before I present my take on this work of fiction, let us know about the author- this time in his own words.

About the author:

Hi, I am Dr. Pradip Chauhan born in the state of Gujarat in India in 1985. I have my medical science degree (M.B.B.S., M.S., C.R.M) FROM Saurashtra University. Presently, I deliver lectures of Anatomy Subject in P.D.U. Govt. Medical College, Rajkot.

The book:

If we read the book, we would see the plot circles around love and revenge, and the term ‘ponytail’ plays a great role in it. So, the title ‘Ponytail- The Love for Revenge’ can be said as the most relevant one for the book. The cover page is pretty simple and doesn’t have much to show. I would suggest the author to get it changed into something catchy in the reprints.

Now let us come to the main story. The plot circles around a rich businessman who has a pathetic past. Today, as he dreams of taking his business to greater heights, he also has a wish to seek revenge of all those who were the cause of the adverse days he has seen in his childhood. In order to keep himself updated with his mission every time, he doesn’t cut his hair- which ultimately forms the base of ‘ponytail’ when two different girls come to his life. In the book, ‘ponytail’ isn’t just a style of hair. Rather, it is much more than that.

As I read the story, the first things that came in my mind are those psycho-thriller movies. The beginning was fairly well, with awesome choice of words. At places, though, the read was boring as the description of the protagonist’s business life was over-exaggerated. Apart from this, at many places, the author had made direct translation from Hindi. Towards the end, there is the break of a suspense which was unpredictable. It made me draw an entirely different image of the protagonist than what I drew in the beginning. The ending was good, but could have been better.

I would rate the book 3 on 5.

Lastly, I would give my best wishes to the author for his future works. I hope his upcoming works will come with better surprises and shall be far better than this one.
